about

alicia ang

Alicia Ang is a Singaporean author-artist. Across all mediums, her style is expressive, warm, and full of wonder. She grew up dabbling in the visual arts, with a love for Chinese painting and acrylics.  She studied International Politics with a minor in Art at Peking University on a Beijing Government Municipal Scholarship. Unexpectedly, she found compelling stories to share and discovered that stories come to her when she travels. She began writing as a student contributor to Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore’s Chinese-language newspaper. In 2013, she won second place in the 2nd China Original Short Musical Script Competition.

After working in Singapore’s private and public sectors for five years, she traveled across East Asia and eventually found her second home in Japan. Inspired by her four-year stay in Okinawa, her debut collection of short stories and poems, Echoes from an Island, was published in 2023. Her second book, a full poetry collection titled Heart Gap, is slated for publication this autumn.

Her first encounter with ceramics was at age fifteen in Suzhou. In 2024, she joined Atelier Sessa in Shibuya and began to deepen her practice. In July, her debut pottery collection, COLORFULカラフル, is being showcased as part of Atelier Sessa's Third Joint Exhibition at Hillside Terrace in Daikanyama, Tokyo.

She currently resides in Tokyo with her two cats, Coco and Naia. In addition to writing and pottery, she enjoys tea and bringing people together. By day, she works as an office administrator and campus ambassador for the fast-growing Workato Japan team.
